Why does Ann Coulter (as much as I loathe her politics) have to be responsible for this? It seems to me that police authority to ban controversial figures from speaking, apart from being a potentially insidious form of censorship, could (and maybe already does) simply be a way to make the job of the police force easier. A lazy, gutless policeforce can simply ban any public event that it deems will risk the breakdown of law and order ...
